Artist’s Statement

The personal rewards of painting focus on the challenge and excitement of creating my art.

The beauty of the outdoors surrounds me as I hike, bike and kayak nature’s trails and waterways; the images I paint are born of these experiences. The excitement of discovering fresh new subject matter; capturing special light, shapes, patterns and vibrant colours is my inspiration. Painting is my personal and emotional response to the excitement of these moments.

The challenge is to best present what has touched me; to develop an idea through strong design and composition, bold colour, and effective technique- and create a pleasing painting. The palette knife delivers colour directly to the canvas, providing form, rich texture and surface depth in one stroke. The knife is visually distinctive, constantly shifting between realism and abstraction, offering a unique and personal style perfect for reflecting the beauty of the outdoors.

In the future, translating the observations, lessons and technical skills of painting nature to the challenge of portraiture will continue to motivate me.
